It's hard to accurately describe the meaning of motherhood. Countless works of art, poems, and songs go to great depths to capture it. So many feelings are involved–it is elating, scary, exhausting, amazing, and throws your heart in places it's never been before. Motherhood wouldn't be the adventure that it is without all of it. If I had to try to wrap motherhood all into one single word to attempt to describe it, I would have to pick the word "awe". By definition, it is "a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder." Even as a child grows, there is an eternal element of awe in motherhood. When you reach motherhood, you are changed forever.

This painting was inspired by my thoughts on Mary, the mother of the Christ child. If motherhood is almost indescribable to most, one cannot even fathom the joy felt in being the mother to a baby as special and divine as our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
